Workcamps
in Indonesia


In 2016 Oikos organises international workcamps in Indonesia in cooperation with the organization DEJAVATO.
DEJAVATO
mission is is to promote voluntary service in Indonesia and overseas through education, social and cultural sectors, to promote intercultural understanding, equality, tolerance and world peace and  to develop awareness and responsibility towards social environment.

 


 


GENERAL INFORMATION

The projects are open to volunteers 18 and 35 years old and above from all over the world. Above 35 years old upon consultation.
Dejevato host physically challenged volunteers but not all the projects can be accessible for individuals in wheelchair or facing large mobility difficulties.

All the travel costs and the visa are carried by the volunteers.

The official language of workcamps is English.

The participation fee that includes the annual membership fee of Oikos is 130,00 euros and has to be paid, upon submission of application, through bank transfer addressed to the cultural association OIKOS on the cc 14042.46 - Code IBAN: IT 10 I01030 03215 000001404246 -  BIC SWIFT: PASCITM1R15 with the payment description "amount for workcamp ".

The workcamp fee (which includes room and board) depends on the project (between 205,00 and 295,00 euros) and it has to be paid to the project coordinator after the arrival.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

DJ - 1610 Agricolture - Education 05/09/2016 - 16/09/2016

LOCATION: This work camp will be held in Baros village, Bantul regency which is 40 km south away from Yogyakarta city.

ACTIVITES: The volunteers will have manual work to conserve the area by providing the seeds with polybag, planting mangrove, making protection for the seeds, cleaning the rubbish in the mangrove area. Volunteers will also have a chance to conduct teaching program with local school in order to give them early education related environmental issues.

LEISURE TIME: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit wonderful places such as King palace, Parangtritis beach and Borobudur temple.

ACCOMODATION: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host family. 

FEE:  3.130.000 Indonesian Rupieh, about 190,00 euros.


DJ - 1611 Renovation - Disabled Support 19/09/2016 - 28/09/2016
DJ - 1616 Renovation - Disabled Support 06/02/2017 - 15/02/2017

LOCATION: This work camp will be held in disabled school in Jimbaran (Bali).

ACTIVITES: The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc. Volunteers influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the family of disabled children.

LEISURE TIME: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit the diverse exciting attraction in Bali which has been popular all over the world. The volunteers may visit beaches, handicraft making center or traditional market.

ACCOMODATION:  The volunteers will be accommodated in the school in basic conditions (the volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag and mat) and cook their own meal. Prefer no vegan (or strict vegetarian).

FEE:  3.300.000 Indonesian Rupieh, about 200,00 euros


DJ - 1612 Elephant Project 16/01/2017 - 25/01/2017
DJ - 1615 Elephant Project 06/02/2016 - 15/02/2017

LOCATION: The workcamp will take place in Way Kambas Elephant Conservation Centre, Lampung.

ACTIVITES: Volunteer will help local mahout (a person who takes care and train an elephant) daily to take care the elephant starting from bathing/showering, feeding, health checking and grassing the elephant. One local mahout will be accompanied by one volunteer in doing his daily job.

LEISURE TIME:  During free time, the volunteers will have wild life and eco tour.

ACCOMODATION: The volunteers will be accommodated in Elephant Conservation Centre in basic conditions, (the volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag and mat). Food will be provided with catering service. Prefer no vegan (or strict vegetarian).

FEE: 4.785.000 Indonesian Rupieh, about 290,00 euros.


DJ - 1613 Renovation - Education 16/01/2017 - 27/01/2017

LOCATION: The workcamp will take place in the rural area in Jembrana regency and the two days cultural activities will take place in Denpasar Bali.

ACTIVITES: The volunteers will assist to help teachers to teach students simple basic English and introduce some English kids songs. The volunteers will also do simple renovation to the school such as making bookshelf for a library and painting the classroom. They will also involve in other activities like cultural exchange and playing with the kids after the school hour in several extracurricular such as sport, art, scout, music and traditional dance.

LEISURE TIME: During free time, the volunteers will have the chance to visit the diverse exciting attraction in Jembrana. The volunteers may visit beaches, temples, handicraft making centre or traditional market.

ACCOMODATION: The volunteers will be accommodated in Indonesian host family.

FEE:  4.785.000 Indonesian Rupieh, about 290,00 euros.
